History of Cary

History of Cary

It was because of the North Carolina railroad that Cary exists today. This rail was chartered in the year 1849. Cary was chosen as a route for the rails because of its topography. The railroad was constructed between NewBern and Hillsborough. Cary was the town that lined Bradford to one of the major transportation routes.

The foundation of the town was laid by Allison Francis Frank Page.  He was a lumberman and a farmer in Wake County. He with his wife Kate bought a land of 300 acres around the junction of the railroad in the year 1854 and they named it Cary. Page took his role as the railroad agent as well as town developer. He then created streets in the region, started a general store, sawmill, and even a post office. The town went through development and changes with time.
